Travel Theme: Fragrant

These photos were taken when out walking our dogs along a footpath in the Nottinghamshire, UK,  countryside. We came across this field of Rapeseed – with its beautiful splash of colour and strong sweet fragrance, unique to this plant. Honey bees were buzzing around, attracted to its abundant nectar. I didn’t have my camera, so I took these shots with my iPhone 4.

Weekly Photo Challenge: Unexpected

Unexpected

All photos © Steve Lakey 2013

If you’re ever in the village of Tattershall, Lincolnshire, UK, get ready to expect the unexpected!

It is a small village, home to 15th Century Tattershall Castle and early 16th Century Holy Trinity Church. Both well worth a visit. A couple of miles away is RAF Coningsby, home of the historic Battle of Britain Memorial Flight and Museum.

If you choose to visit the ‘Tattershall Park Country Pub and Kitchen’ for a meal, you should find a good atmosphere and enjoy the food. But it’s when you go to visit the toilet that you discover the unexpected!

I’d describe it as high-class rustic. Definitely bringing the outdoors, indoors! I couldn’t resist taking some photos with my iPhone 4. It’s the first (and probably last) time I’ve taken pictures in a public toilet. Fortunately, nobody walked in as I was taking the photos!

I’ve used Perfect Effects 4 to slightly sharpen the main image.

Take Two

Amanda was one click away from making a huge mistake. She knew it, but it was so tempting. She loved the Photo Challenges, but never got the recognition she wanted. For the “Nature” theme she hatched a scheme to get loads more ‘Likes’.

She selected a photo of Giant Redwoods. But it wasn’t her shot – she’d taken it from Google Images.

Just as she was about to post, the dogs pestered her for a walk. She gave in, and took them out onto the park. Amanda took a picture with her phone and posted that instead. Her most successful yet!

Thanks to my wife Amanda who has let me use her photo and her name in the story. I’d like to point out that the story is pure fiction – she wouldn’t dream of passing anyone else’s photos off as her own, and she gets plenty of recognition!
